Right Livelihood

I love being so close to the Jung Institute here in Houston. For one the museum district is a lovely area, and for seconds the center offers a plethora of workshops and classes that I’m really interested in checking out. The workshops run anywhere from $20-$100+ so it’s a little though on the wallet to be able to attend all of the workshops.

I have made it an intention, however, to give myself the pleasure of attending a couple of these. I am planning on enrolling in the class Re-Imagining our Love Relationships with Myth and Storytelling for obvious reasons (if I get to posting some blog posts for Restaurant it might become even more obvious why given the latest updates in my love life).  But the class I am already signed up for is a writing class called Writing a Woman’s life:  Together, Alone.  Today was our first class and I really enjoyed it.  I am the youngest at 24 out of the group, but all of the ladies are so lovely and darling.

Our first take-home assignment is to write about Right livelihood, a Buddhist concept that “involves working in an occupation that calls for the best in you, encourages you to grow, and enables you to respect yourself while you respect the needs of people and the natural world” (Albert, p. 77).  When I read this chapter in the book I absolutely identified with the author’s need to have a right livelihood and thus here is my essay for the class in regards to where I stand in relation to this concept.

Saybrook personal statement

This is the personal statement I submitted to Saybrook University for the MA program in Psychology with an emphasis on Jungian theory.  The statement itself was 5 different drafts and took me about 2-3 weeks to complete to perfection–it HAS to be perfect seeing as this essay, I know, is going to be my admissions ticket to the program.  Please be advised the essay is MY intellectual property and is merely posted for the benefit of anyone seeking an example of a personal statement for grad school admissions.  Thank you and enjoy.
